Community-Academic Partnership Fund

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Oversight and Advisory Committee (OAC) is pleased to announce the availability of grants through the Community-Academic Partnership Fund to promote the goals of Wisconsin’s health plan, Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 and the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of The Wisconsin Partnership Program.

BACKGROUND
The Community-Academic Partnership Fund is a component of The Wisconsin Partnership Program, the five-year plan created by the UW School of Medicine and Public Health in collaboration with the OAC to guide the distribution of funds from the conversion of Blue Cross/Blue Shield United of Wisconsin. More details about the five-year plan are available at www.wphf.med.wisc.edu/plan.php.

The Wisconsin Partnership Program focuses on developing community-academic partnerships and supporting medical education and research—working to make Wisconsin the nation’s healthiest state. It is designed to address the goals of the State Health Plan, Healthiest Wisconsin 2010, to eliminate health disparities, promote health, and transform Wisconsin’s public health system. A major component of the five-year plan is the Community-Academic Partnership Fund, which provides grants to community-based organizations to improve the health of the public through an annual Request for Partnerships (RfP).

PURPOSE
The Community-Academic Partnership Fund is based on the premise that partnerships capitalize on the strengths and unique skills of community-based organizations and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health faculty and staff. Community leaders bring an in-depth understanding of the public health needs of residents, knowledge of local culture, access to local resources and a commitment from dedicated staff and volunteers. The University of Wisconsin brings education and research expertise and a service commitment to communities in the state. These partnerships improve the exchange of knowledge and expertise in both directions, from communities to the University and from the University to communities.

GRANT PRIORITIES
The Wisconsin Partnership Program features two types of grants administered through the Community-Academic Partnership Fund:

  • Collaboration Development Grants
  • Collaboration Implementation Grants

These community grant funds are designed to support Wisconsin-based projects that develop strong community-academic partnerships specifically focused on health promotion, disease prevention, health policy and health disparities by addressing the priorities of Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 and the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of The Wisconsin Partnership Program.

For the 2008 funding cycle, the OAC invites community organizations to submit applications for well-designed projects that address the following:

  • Programs aimed at the elimination of health disparities;
  • Programs that address the health needs of at risk vulnerable populations who
    face barriers to obtaining quality health care; and
  • Programs that address the health needs of rural and urban underserved areas
    in Wisconsin.
